Byron Bay Wedding Locations

Byron Bay has many beautiful options for your wedding ceremony location. It is recommended that if possible you view the locations in person yourself so you know exactly what it's like and to avoid dissapointment. However, to help you along the way the following is a guide for Byron Shire wedding locations.

Please note, that if you wish to get married in a public place, for example, on the beach, you will need a permit from either the local Byron Shire Council or The Cape Byron Trust . You may also need a 'Wedding Photography Consent' form.  Fees will apply and you should check this with the relevant governing body. Also remember that you need to book this as far in advance as possible as Byron Bay is a very popular wedding destination.

Local Beaches

Byron Bay beaches

  • Belongil Beach: Long but shallow in depth of beach, with views to Mt Warning/Wollumbin in the North and the Lighthouse to the South. Must get the tides right. Limited parking.
  • Main Beach: Busy most of the year round. Paid car park close by. Closest beach to town centre. Views to Julian Rocks, the Lighthouse and the North.
  • Clarks Beach: Similar to the Pass (see below) but more parking, and sometimes not as busy with people.
  • The Pass Beach: Great views to the North and of the bay, picturesque, can get busy in holiday times. Bus hire/taxi is best unless small wedding. Longish beach with easy beach access from car park.
  • Watego’s Beach: Limited parking, best hire minibus or taxi. Small cove like beach – pretty, can be busy in Summer & peak times. Walk straight onto beach from car park.
  • Little Watego’s Beach: Secluded cove, small beach depending on the tides! Many steps (100+) to get there, not great for elderly or the unfit or brides and grooms in suits and heels! Better for small groups, simple weddings or elopements.
  • The Byron Bay Lighthouse: Great views but often busy with tourists. Various lookouts and a grassy area, quite public. Numbers could be limited due to space. Some paid parking, best hire minibus or taxi.
  • Broken Head Beach: A bit more remote, quieter, especially non-peak season, 15-20 mins drive from town centre. Quite a pretty beach with long views North along the beach towards the Lighthouse.
