Humpback Whales have been spotted off the shore at Lennox Head and Cape Byron in the last couple of weeks. This marks the start of their annual migration North.
Local Lennox Head residents said they were walking along Seven Mile Beach on Friday 2 weeks ago when they saw the spray of at least 2 Humpback Whales close to the shore line. "It was unreal, they were thrashing their tales continuously. They were so close you could actually hear them smacking the water. I reckon they were about 200 metres from the shore. It was the best thing and made my weekend".
Many more have been spotted, although not as close as these lucky spectators saw.
